The origin of the Healing Field is: Paul Swenson, owner of Colonial Flags, first created this tribute to the lost loved ones of September 11th. Mr. Swenson wanted to display the magnitude of lives lost on 911 and placed 3000 flags on several acres of land, one to represent each victim of the Twin Tower’s attack. Friends and family members gathered from around the nation for a joining of spirits to remember and to heal.
The Field of Memories-Healing Field is a 10-day event planned to coincide with the Memorial Day holiday. This event will include a field of 100 American flags displayed at Esper Peterson Park (corner of Grand and old Grand Avenue). Each flag will represent a lost loved one, neighbor, friend, co-worker, or veteran as noted by the flag’s sponsor. Sponsors will be encouraged to display photos, mementos, and other accompaniments at the foot of their flags.
